I am a self-diagnosed Dyslexic while my mom, who also has Dyslexia, was officially diagnosed by Yale back in her 40s. Even if I was already showing signs of Dyslexia at a young age, my mom knew very little about what Dyslexia was.

Interestingly enough, I unknowingly married a Dyslexic and three of our four children are also Dyslexics while all four have varying types of neurodiversity, which had led me to writing my first book, “I Am NOT Dumb, I’m Dyslexic” being released this October for Dyslexia Awareness Month.
Fast forward to today, I am now the Program Director of 3D Learning Experts and the CEO of I Am NOT Dumb, Inc.
I am also a Barton-certified dyslexia tutor and I even taught my mom, and my husband, proving that despite late diagnosis, adults can still get help with their dyslexia.

I am a certified Dyslexia Tutor and Dyslexia Specialist that has been a guest speaker for several podcasts and shows. I shared about Dyslexia numerous times at several homeschool conferences, such as California Homeschool Network and California Home Education Association.

DID I EVER REALIZE THAT I WILL BECOME WHO I AM TODAY?

No.  Back in 2009, my career was actually in the real estate business when the need to help my children paved the way for the beginning of my homeschooling journey. I started tutoring my second youngest son unexpectedly, while we were living in Texas. The following year, my family moved back to Las Vegas, Nevada and I continued to homeschool him as well as my youngest son, who has severe dyslexia and profound dyscalculia.

It quickly became apparent that I needed to homeschool my youngest son differently than I originally intended. This led me to discover and learn the Orton-Gillingham-based program and incorporate multisensory activities into our daily lives. Within no time, my son was learning to read. A few years later, we moved to Southern California and we decided it was beneficial to homeschool my daughter who also has profound dyslexia and was struggling in traditional high school.

That's the inspiring story behind my tutoring company, Lexia Learners, and our mission is to
EDUCATE people who struggle from learning differences, INSPIRE them to continue working hard for their dreams and ELEVATE their skills, knowledge and most importantly, their confidence.

Today, I focus on training my staff of tutors with the use of Orton-Gillingham and multisensory techniques. I also give time for speaking out publicly in order to increase awareness and help families experience harmony.  Most of all, it is my passion to give back and help close the gap by volunteering my time to at-risk youths who have dyslexia. By doing this, I am hoping to contribute in trying to lessen the number of dyslexic individuals who end up going to jail or becoming jobless and homeless.
