3D Learning Experts Online Dyslexia Tutoring FAQs - Expert Solutions and Support for Your Child's Learning Differences
Q. Are your services the same as traditional tutoring centers?
A. NO. We are not the same. Most tutoring programs don’t know how to help individuals with Neurodiversity. We tutor using Orton-Gillingham based curriculum. Which means it is systematic and multi-sensory. The approach we use is completely different from that of your average tutor or center. We do not help with homework or fill in the holes in their learning. We go back to basics and build a strong foundation and build up from there. We individualize the program for each student based on the initial student intake screening and tutor's observation.
Q.What is Orton-Gillingham tutoring?
A. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach reading, writing, and spelling, to individuals struggling to learn these skills otherwise, such as those with Dyslexia.
Q. Am I too old for tutoring?
A.We tutor students from age 7 and up to adulthood. It’s not too late to end your reading struggles. If you are an adult who reads slowly, has trouble putting your thoughts on paper or is a terrible speller, we can help. One of our favorite O-G programs is perfect for teaching teens and adult students how to read and spell, well. It is not childish.
Q. What kind of commitment is required for tutoring?
A. We require only a month to month commitment, however for Orton-Gillingham reading and spelling tutoring clients should plan to commit a minimum of 1 year. In order to successfully absorb the information taught, students are required to attend a minimum of two 30 minute tutoring sessions per week. More sessions are recommended if you hope to see quicker results.
The average student takes 2- 3 years to complete the entire program from beginning to end. It is best to stay the course then to start and stop. Older or less severe students will complete it faster than younger, severe or profound students. Remediation in math can usually be completed in one year. Multiplication can be taught in just a few lessons, alone.
Q. Do we have to pay for any supplies or materials?
A. All materials are included for Orton-Gillingham and math tutoring. For specific homeschool subject services, clients will likely incur additional costs for most materials. If we have the materials in our library, you will not be charged, but if specific materials or consumable curriculum is needed, the client will be billed separately for it.
Q. How is online tutoring different from in-person tutoring?
A. We provide effective remote/online 1 on 1 personalized tutoring services in reading, spelling and foundational math to our students using a platform called zoom. Online tutoring is virtually the same as in-person tutoring, we continue to use multisensory methods which are beneficial for students with Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. The main difference between online and in-person is our online students practice developing their typing skills, rather than handwriting skills. We have found online tutoring to be highly successful for ADHD students.
Q. Do you have an in person option instead of online?
A. Our program is 100% online now, we find that it is extremely effective for 95% of students. We can get a feel for how he performs online during the placement appointment.
Q.What is the process to start tutoring?
A. Step One:Schedule a Free 30-minute discovery call with Jess Arce. Step Two:Schedule a Student Intake screening in one area (Language Arts or math) to determine if our tutoring services will help, what program is ideal for you or your child and create a personalized tutoring plan.
